How to Play
- Make sure that you have a safe space for the participants and schedule this activity at a time when they will be willing and open to talk to one another. This is a great activity for the beginning of a day (for a group that already knows each other somewhat) or just after lunch (for a group that is coming together for the first time).
- Have your team sit in small groups where they can see the screen. I find table rounds work best. Invite the participants to play Commonalties in their groups. Hand out the grids you have photocopied prior to playing (included in the slide show)--one grid for every group.
- Have each team write a list of as many commonalities in their lives as they can think of (i.e., we all have children; we all drive domestic automobiles; we all went to public school, etc.). I usually don't accept things like "we all have eyes or we all have fingernails." I encourage groups to dig a bit deeper. You can give bonus points for the most original answers.
- The group with the most commonalities wins! (If you like, insert prizes here).
- Have fun!
